This stunning renovation project in Redfern saw the transformation of a condemned, dilapidated Victorian terrace into a beautiful, functional and modern living space. The client's brief was to return the house to its former glory, while also opening up the rear poky rooms to create a welcoming and understatedly elegant kitchen - perfect for entertaining guests.
The front rooms of the house have been beautifully restored, leading seamlessly into the light-filled kitchen. The stainless steel splashback and appliances are used as graphic accents to the bright white material palette, providing a modern yet timeless feel.
Natural light and ventilation abound, thanks to a central light-well, operable skylights, new windows and French doors. The polished concrete floor and concrete pendant lights add character to the space.
The essentials of everyday life, such as the laundry, are cleverly concealed behind cabinetry that runs the length of the room, bringing multiple functions to the kitchen area and minimising clutter. The spine of joinery connects the kitchen to the formal entry rooms and to the rear casual dining area, while also securing the kitchen as the heart of the home. The island bench is pared back to its most pure state to provide an informal gathering space. The result is a beautiful and functional living space that seamlessly integrates period features with modern design elements.
